Football Hooligans Caught On Tape
Certain gangs of sports hooligans consider their territory to be in the bleachers of football stadiums or in the near by streets. Gangs of hooligans, no matter if they know each other personally, often gather around colors of their football team and fight against those that are cheering for the opposing team. This hooliganism can be an expression of approval, anger, celebration of victory or loyalty to their chosen team. These sports related riots have been around for hundreds of years, long before the age of TV and video, one worth of mentioning is the year 532 Byzantines chariot-races which lead to the big Nika riots.
Soccer (football) hooligans are infamous for their intoxicated fights in the stadiums wich are almost always caught on tape, one that escalated was after the Heysel riots, in which 39 soccer fans were fatally crushed in a fight between Juventus and Liverpool F.C. hooligans. Fans of ice hockey have been known to start street fights near the stadiums. In the year 1955 the Richard Riots in Montreal, Canada, caused half a million dollars of property damage, after the player Maurice Richard was suspended for intentionally injuring one of the other players. Fans of the Canadian Vancouver Canucks began fighting in 1994 after losing to the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup in game seven.
A few sports psychologists suggest that sports hooliganism and riots come from cultural attitudes that approve other types of violent behavior in sports. It is not unusual to see injuries from street fights caught on tape like stab wounds and deep wounds from broken glass.
